The Jessamine County Detention Center has formed partnerships with several different organizations that assist our agency with providing the tools necessary to those incarcerated that are battling drug addiction. The first organization is the Jessamine County Health Department’s Transitions Program. The Jessamine Transitions Program transitions our formerly incarcerated population back into the community be connecting them to vital resources, including peer support and case management services, which helps lead these individuals to a life of independence and hope. Our program staff also assist with the SEP and mobile harm reduction unit programs to help any individual with a substance use disorder who is seeking to transform their life. The services that they provide to our facility are SMART Recovery (Self-Management And Recovery Training), Peer Support services provided by a certified peer support specialist, Case Management services provided by a licensed social worker, One to One Assessments, Limited Financial Incentives, Accountability, Referrals for: IOP Programs, MAT Programs, Recovery Centers, or Sober Living Programs, Assistance with and/or obtaining: Basic Needs (food, clothing, shelter), Identification, Insurance, Transportation, Employment, DCBS Services, Medical Care & Appointments, and Mental Health Services. We have also partnered with Voices of Hope and the Healing Communities Study to provide a Peer Support Specialist which is funded by a grant obtained by the University of Kentucky. Our Peer Support Specialist acts as our facility’s recovery coach, Lead Instructor for S.M.A.R.T. meetings, offers overdose education and naloxone distribution and provides linkage to treatment to those incarcerated. As part of these partnerships our agency has also been able to receive funding to provide Narcan to the community at no charge and purchase protective equipment for our Deputies to prevent needle sticks during searches.
